Soon-to-be Olympic Swimmer

We finished our first round of swimming lessons this past weekend. Ayla was enrolled in the Sea Turtle class at the YMCA. It was a 6-week course to get the kids familiar with the water. If I can be "that mom" for 5 minutes, I must say that Ayla shows great promise in being an Olympic swimmer.

For example, when the rest of the class was "swimming" on their bellies, trying to kick and their way after a toy, my little girl found solace at the side of the pool. She didn't want the other kids to feel bad about their novice swimming abilities, so she decided it would be better to hold back and not break out in a freestyle stroke while chasing her toy.

Instead, she and her dad (who's learning quite a lot in swim class, too) grabbed the side of the pool and just floated for a bit. There was some splashing involved, but again, she wanted to keep it simple for the other kids.

In the fall, we will enroll in the next round at the Y, although I really don't think she even needs it. With her amazing skills, by the fall she'll be jumping off the diving board.
